60”x48”x5” (Plaster, paper mâché clay, tissue paper, soil samples from 50 locations) 2025

Each of the 50 places where I collected soil (homes, wedding sites, burial grounds, birthplaces, workplaces, schools, and more has shaped my family’s story. Seven generations of my ancestors lived, loved, and are remembered in the earth represented in this piece. This collection of soil holds the energy and memories of their lives, as well as my own.
I wanted to infuse this energy into the artwork. The actions and experiences that unfolded on this land helped shape who I am today. This project offered me a way to honor and connect with my ancestors, while also reflecting on my personal past. It allowed me the chance to consider how each person and place has impacted my life-and how they might
continue to influence future generations of my family. It was also an opportunity to honor the Earth itself, which continues to hold the energy of these memories. As I dug and gathered each sample, I said a prayer of gratitude to the Earth, those who lived there, and the lessons learned on it.
Sacred energies infused in the work: Earth energy drawn from 50 pivotal locations (carrying the memories and experiences of seven generations) that have shaped my life
and family history, Love and Gratitude
